A Bold, Embodied Performance Reclaiming the Stories We Were Never Taught to Tell
Collingwood, Ontario - Feb. 10th - This Is My Vulva is a powerful and provocative performance that brings the voices of twelve women into the spotlight through story, movement, and cultural reflection. Blending intimate narrative with contemporary dance, the production invites audiences into a rarely spoken conversation—one that challenges shame, dismantles silence, and celebrates bodily autonomy.
Each vignette explores a woman’s relationship with her vulva—at times celebratory, at times complex, raw, humorous, or deeply moving. These stories are embodied by dancers Catherine Lafond and Jodi Behan, who interpret each narrative through expressive, emotionally resonant movement, giving physical form to what is often hidden or suppressed.
Woven between the vignettes, Fran Bouwman—artist, educator, comedian, and founder of Viva la Flying Vulva—offers historical and contemporary context, situating the personal stories within a broader cultural framework. Her reflections illuminate how social conditioning, language, medicine, and media have shaped our relationships to our bodies—and how reclamation begins with curiosity and compassion.
This Is My Vulva is not about shock value. It is about truth-telling. It is intimate without being insular, educational without being didactic, and radical in its simplicity: naming what has long been left unnamed.
“This work creates space for honesty,” says Bouwman. “When we bring these stories into the light, we begin to loosen the grip of shame—and that has a ripple effect far beyond the stage.”
The production welcomes people of all genders and all ages, offering an entry point into conversations about body literacy, self-worth, and collective healing. Audiences can expect a performance that is thoughtful, emotionally rich, and quietly revolutionary.

Reclaiming the Vulva: A Six-Week Journey
Join us for a six-week exploration that blends history, healing, creativity, and community. Together we will uncover the hidden stories of the vulva, honor her sacred power, and release the weight of centuries of silence and distortion.
Each week we’ll weave together guided meditation, journaling, circle dialogue, art-making, music, and movement. From ancient reverence to modern reclamation, we’ll explore how culture has shaped our relationship with the divine feminine—and how we can heal, celebrate, and reclaim her today.
This journey is more than learning—it’s transformation.
Through reverence, reflection, and joy, you’ll reconnect with your body’s wisdom, awaken new energy, and cultivate self-love rooted in empowerment.
Reclamation leads to vibrancy, confidence, and renewal. You will walk away a different person.

Join us for a transformative six-week journey designed to celebrate and reclaim the magic of the vulva. Together, we’ll weave history, somatic healing, meditation, art therapy, self-reflection, and open dialogue into a holistic experience that nurtures both mind and body.
We’ll explore why the vulva has been silenced in our culture, why its true name is so often lost, and why so many of us feel disconnected from her power. Through creative practices and embodied healing, you’ll be invited to reconnect with yourself in new and meaningful ways.
Reclaiming the vulva opens the door to a renewed—and sometimes never before experienced—energy, vibrancy, and joy. This workshop is more than learning; it’s an awakening. You’ll leave not only with insight, but with a deeper sense of empowerment. You will walk away a different person.
"Fran Bouwman is one of the finest educators I know, which is saying a lot considering I run an educational charity that recruits 100 teachers a year. For years our organization has used Fran as the standard of excellence we want all of our people to try and emulate. She is sincere, creative, empathetic, strong, smart, engaging, funny and more. She creates real, lasting, genuine, and effective bonds with her pupils. She quite frankly is as good as it gets, the complete package. If we all had teachers like Fran growing up, what a wonderful world it could be.”
